Summiting Malawi and Zambia: Going up the highest points of the two countries.

Summiting Malawi and Zambia is a popular product for those enthusiastic about climbing mountains and peaks. In this product, only fit and experienced climbers and hikers join. For the past 3 years, hikers have gone to climb the highest points of Zambia and Malawi with Small Steps Adventure Tours. We can proudly say that we are the only ones who do connect you to these 2 highest points of the 2 countries together.

The highest point of Zambia is in Mafinga Hills in the border with Malawi. The highest points are about an average of 2400 metres high. Apparently 2 points have been found with the same height, now named Mafinga South and Mafinga Central. The route, the trails are both not as developed, the infrastructure is still basic with no proper camp or guest house available. We do make up camps and use local accommodation with communities around Chisenga, a small trading post at the foot of the mountain. But the mountain is very unique, its vegetation and weather temperate-like. It is not dense therefore easy to climb but it can be windy at times. Often times you are up and down the mountain just in half a day.

On the other hand, Mulanje Mountain is 3001 metres high. Rising on the plains in South Eastern corner of Malawi, it is the tallest mountain in this part of Africa. Its highest point, Sapitwa, which locally means “where no one goes” is the ultimate destination for this tour. You will spend 2 nights in the mountain; this is for those used to hiking and climbing challenges.
